Introduction
This page is a collection of bios I’ve collected from various sites/social profiles over the years from different time periods of Ben’s career. They’re a cool artifact of his musical history, which is why I included them. I left them mostly untouched except for formatting and some minor spelling/grammar edits. After the bios, I also included people who have played in Ben’s solo live band.
Old Supergrub Site Bios
Bio 1:
Supergrub began in 1995. Chuck Treece invited Ben Kenney to record a 7″ at the Creep Records house. The 7″ soon became a full length CD and what started as a fun side project grew into what would be the beginnings of a band. The first couple of shows were played under the name “50 / 50” with Ben playing guitar and singing, Chuck playing bass, and Greg O’Keefe playing drums. By the
time the album was finished (Norma & Thurselle) the project had a new name and slightly different lineup. The first shows under the name Supergrub were played with Chuck on drums and Ted Kenney on bass. This would be the lineup throughout 1995 into 1997. In early 1997 Jim Mueller would join Supergrub on drums and Chuck and Ted would trade off shows on bass. By the end of the summer of 1997 Chris Shar had joined Supergrub as the full time bassist. Around this time the second full length (Communicator) was released by the Suburban Hoodz’ label 215 Records. Supergrub performed with this lineup until fall of 1998 when Chris and Ben returned to the studio to record the group’s latest cd. The band began playing again in spring of 1999 with Ali Nassar on drums. Supergrub supported their 2000 release (Challenger) with Marry Harris filling in on on drums, followed by Kevin Rheualt. Most recently, Ashley Mendel has joined Supergrub full time and the group is currently working on a record for release in 2001.
Early on Supergrub’s sound was an eclectic mix of skatepunk, reggae and hardcore. As time passed, more influences would be called on to give the sound more possibilities. Today the music is more defined and easily identifiable by
those familiar to Supergrub. Having always performed live as a trio helped the sound evolve into a intricate mesh with few ingredients. Bass, drums, guitar and voice are the components and aggressive, progressive, modern rock is the result
of these ingredients’ mixture. Supergrub has no intent to conform or comply with the limitations of neither mainstream nor underground music.
Ben Kenney is 23 years old and lives in Philadelphia PA, USA,
Chris Shar is 21 years old and lives in Philadelphia PA, USA.
Ashley Mendel is barely legal and lives in Matawan NJ, USA.

Bio 2:
Supergrub was started in 1995. Since then they’ve won six grammys, two oscars and a 1997 Pontiac Grand AM GT. Everyone in Supergrub is 21 years old, disease free, single and looking for the right girl to settle down with in the scarce time between shows the boys enjoy jet skiing, tennis, traveling, and parasailing. Their future plans include a european tour, a live album and some much needed time off.

Ben’s old bio from Soundcloud:
I am a musician from New Jersey. Been playing bass for Incubus and releasing solo albums since 2003. Before that I played guitar for The Roots and did session work. And before that I was tearing up basement and VFW punk shows in a band called Supergrub. I’m living in Southern California when I’m not on the road with Incubus and always working on new music.
